Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic
Emirates Golf Club
4-6 November
Nuria Iturrioz secured back-to-back titles as she won the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic by a stroke over the Faldo Course at Emirates Golf Club. The Spaniard, who had won the Lalla Meryem Cup the previous week, held off the German pair of Olivia Cowan and Esther Henseleit with a final-round 71 to claim the inaugural prize.
Although the LET had been visiting Emirates Golf Club since 2006 for the Dubai Ladies Masters and Classic played over the Majlis Course, this was the first ever day-night tournament played on the lesser known track and renamed accordingly. Each of the 56 players in the field played at least nine holes of one of their opening rounds under the floodlights in near darkness.
Iturrioz certainly adapted quickly, while Cheyenne Woods, who finished 47th at eight-over-par, said: “It’s very exciting. Regular strokeplay during the day gets a little boring so it’s nice to spice things up. It’s very different for golf, so I think it will be really good.”
This year the tournament will be the penultimate event on the Race to Costa del Sol, bringing extra excitement ahead of the season-ending Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España.
