The Burnside Course, steeped in history, dates back to 1892. It served as a qualifying course for The Open Championship in 1953, notably witnessing Ben Hogan’s qualification for the Championship, a prelude to lifting The Claret Jug on The Carnoustie Championship Course later that very week – the only time ever that Hogan competed in the Championship.

As the round unfolds, it seamlessly transitions into heathland terrain before gradually embracing a parkland setting. Reverting to a Links-like character on the back nine, the course culminates in two exceptional tests of Links golf and offers a perfect end to the round.
