Skincare Routines of Top Female Golfers

Playing golf in all weather conditions and climates can take quite a toll on a professional golfer’s skin. Whether it’s wall-to-wall sunshine in Saudi Arabia, or wind and rain in Scotland, they spend hours out in the elements, practising and competing, every week. With a myriad of products out there, how do you know which ones to trust? Who better to ask than the experts themselves. We asked the top golfers to open up their beauty cabinets, share their skincare routines and the products they actually use.
ANNABEL DIMMOCK

Annabel said: “We have to look after ourselves because we’re out in the sun so much and we go from hot to cold, which is traumatic for your skin, so you have to look after it.
“I use a Red-Light Therapy CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask. You strap it on and then put on the mask. I try to do it twice a week.
“I drink a lot of water and take hydration tablets, which are key for me. I put them in the bottle.
“When I’m at a golf tournament, for example in Saudi Arabia, I probably drink four litres of water a day. I’ll have a bottle of 500 ml water every three holes.
“I try to get my eight hours sleep per night, but it’s hard. If I can’t get eight hours, then I try to make it up the next night.
“I like to travel light, so I normally go away with six golf outfits, two track suits and one gym outfit… all by adidas, of course!”
Annabel’s morning routine
Step 1: Cleanser.
Step 2: Toner.
Step 3: Serums. Hydroclauric acid and nymacide acid serums by Inkie List.
Step 4: Moisturiser.
Step 5: Sunscreen. Factor 50 La Roche-Posay tinted fluid.
Step 6: At home I put Urban Decay Setting Spray on my face and on the collars of my golf tops.
Step 7: Make-up routine. I really like Charlotte Tilbury foundation and then I love Fenti beauty, for my contours. I would happily have everything in my make-up bag Fenti beauty. They do the minis so most of my make-up and toiletries will be miniature size so that I can take it away with me. I only normally take hand-luggage, and I whack it in my golf bag. I can’t carry too much based on my recent history with thumb surgery. I never take eyeshadow palettes away with me, but I use bronzer on my eyes to save space.
Annabel’s evening routine
Step 1: Cleanser. “Straight after getting back from golf, I take my make-up off. I can’t wait to get it off”.
Step 2: Toner.
Step 3: Serums. Hydroclauric acid and nymacide acid serums by Inkie List.
Step 4: Eye cream. Retinol eye cream by Inkie List, “which is very good and affordable”.
Step 5: Tacha night cream.

Step 5: Moisturiser. Clarins Multi intense night moisturiser.

MAHA HADDIOUI
Maha said: “I have combination to oily skin, so my routine is focused on protecting my skin barrier and keeping oil in check without over-drying.”
Maha’s morning routine
Step 1: No Cleanser. Just a splash of water in the morning to avoid stripping my skin unnecessarily.
Step 2: A spray of rose flower water.
Step 3: Serums. Vitamin C serum in the morning for antioxidant protection and to help brighten my complexion.
Step 4: Moisturiser. SPF 30 moisturiser that is especially for oily skin: DermoPurifyer Oil control post acne marks by Eucerin.
Step 5: Sunscreen. As I get to the course, I apply another layer of SPF that’s great for oily skin and doesn’t leave a white cast. In warm sunny places I use Eucerin SPF100 which is usually prescribed for cancer prevention/treatment.
Step 6: Make-up routine. I only use mascara because I don’t wear any make up when I play. It tends to clog my pores and I would ruin it anyway when reapplying sunscreen.
Maha’s evening routine
Step 1: Cleanser. I’m a big fan of double cleansing at night. I use an oil-based cleanser first to remove make up and sunscreen, followed by a soapy cleanser. The brand I use for this is Erborian.
Step 2: Toner. I never use micellar water but instead just rose flower water, which is hydrating and antioxidant, too.
Step 3: Serums. At night, I like to rotate between a hydrating serum and one with active ingredients like hyaluronic acid. I also use retinoid cream twice a week.
Step 4: Eye cream. Light and hydrating mainly to keep the under-eye area smooth and fresh as the skin there is very thin. I use the one by Filorga.
Step 5: Moisturiser or Sleeping Mask. On top of that I always put a moisturising cream which is great because it locks in all the serums that I’ve put on. It acts like a conservation, or protective layer for the products underneath so that they absorb better. I also put a Lip sleeping mask by LANEIGE.
Don’t forget to do it all on the V and neckline!

Cara Gainer
“Before golf, depending on where we’re playing, I wake up and wash my face with my Simple facial wash. I use a serum from Chantelle which is really good and plumps up the eyes for the day. I use Ultra Violette SPF 50+ supreme screen, hydrating facial suncream. Factor 50 always, considering how much we play in the sun.
I use the Erborian Korean Skin Therapy as a foundation, from day to day and I use the Red Correct, which gets rid of any redness in the face and smooths out the skin, so that visually it looks better.
SpaceNK is my favourite place for skin products. I use SpaceNK Chantecaille Eye Definer products, so the long mascara and also their eye liner. I don’t use any foundation unless I’m going out-out. I always finish off with a spray of Chanel Chance.
I use my Simple face wash again in the evening. I’m a pretty casual person and don’t wear lots of make-up, so this is enough for me.”

Kajsa Arwefjall
“When I go to bed, I do my hair in a pair of socks. So then when I wake up, it’s nice and curly. And then I wake 15 minutes before I have to leave, put on my clothes, put on some vitamin C in my face, and then some sunscreen and take out the socks and then it’s nice and curly.
I bought a vitamin C and sunscreen in Australia by Cancer Council. It’s good.
I use a lot of Caia make up products, which is a Swedish based brand. I don’t use a lot of make-up, but I put some concealer and bronzer from Selena Gomez’s brand and some blusher from Road and mascara from Caia.
Sometimes I do some retinol at night before I go to bed and some lotion, but that’s about it.”
